Artist's Description - Life in rural areas in Mozambique is beset by many hardships, which include economic, health-related and family-based challenges. In order to overcome obstacles with limited resources, families depend on one another to survive. This piece expresses the interdependency between families in villages in rural areas. In order to survive collectively, villages must maintain harmony among its members.

Artist's Description - There is a traditional celebration in Mozambique that takes place on February 3rd every year. This festival crosses social lines, as even the president takes part. A local drink made from rice and other ingredients, called ximovana is prepared specially for this festival. In the past, this drink was only consumed during the festival, however in recent times people have begun to produce it year round in order to make a living from selling it. This piece depicts the celebration of the festival, which includes the ximovana being consumed from a gourde and music being played on the marrimbe, which is a traditional instrument that is similar to a xylophone.

Artist's Description - More than 70% of the Mozambican population lives in rural areas and depends on largely subsistence agriculture for survival. As a result, lifestyles and traditions are based around the agricultural calendar. This piece shows the physical exhaustion resulting from harvesting and transporting crops from the fields to the village. However, the work also portrays the harvest season as a time of plenty that brings to a close the annual hunger season.
