Male was born and raised in Mozambique during the colonial period in the 1930's and has been painting for over six decades. Living through numerous political upheavals and transitions over the past eight decades has shaped the themes and emotions expressed in Male's works. His works commonly express the solidarity among Mozambicans that was forged during the struggle for independence, the post-independence civil war and ongoing battles with economic hardships. Through the use of powerful mono-chromatic scenes, his pieces express the strength of the Mozambican people but also the grief endured during decades of struggles. Male's works have been displayed in galleries in South Africa and Mozambique.
Male's artwork will be on display at the Exibition at the Corner Store in Washington, DC from December 12th to December 20th.
