Augusto García Peñalva was born in Cusco, Peru, in 1945. He was drawn to art at an early age and graduated from Escuela Superior de Bellas Artes (Superior School of Fine Arts) in 1965 to pursue a life in the fine arts.

For the last 40 year Agusto has been painting, teaching, and celebrating the arts in his hometown of Cusco, Peru and on the international stage. Agusto founded the Euro-American Exhibition, an international art organization that brings together artists from across the globe to host exhibition and promote the arts.

Augusto has shown his artwork at nearly 50 exhibitions and received numerous distinctions, including first prize, Association de Artistas Hispano Americano SAH in Buenos Aires, Argentina, honorable mention at the Ibero America Internacional in Miami, USA, and honorable mention CAM Caja de - Ahorras de Mediterraneo in Alicante, Spain.

Art critic Eva M. Mera Jiménez describes Agusto's work:

"Every one of Augusto Garcia's canvases evidences his great strengths as an Artist. For this reason the contemplation of each work quickly captures the attention of a public that is, without a doubt, always eager for the alluring qualities of truly great art.

The observer surrenders himself to each gorgeous canvas, drawn in by the artist's extremely interesting technique, which, at times, may remind one of Botero. Let's not forget, however, that Augusto Garcia's style has its own unique form; a form which seems to take pleasure in sending the viewer a particular message; one that invites the spectator to become one with the painted environment, evoking in each viewer his most deeply human qualities.

The artist puts his work at the service of a broad development of his chosen themes, each of which has human beings at its center, demonstrating at once, by means of expressions of tenderness and bliss, how it feels to be intoxicated with love. We also find maternal scenes, with mothers and children merged in endless embrace, sweet and gentle communications that have so great an emotional impact on the viewer, that he ends up feeling drawn into the daily life of the honest and peaceful Andean villages depicted in each work.

In the works of Augusto Garcia, the subjects remain unaware of the colorful intensity of their dress and of their environment. They blend in with their surroundings in a fresh, unselfconscious, manner that leaves no room for bad feeling of any kind. The gentle serenity and magical tenderness depicted on these canvases draw the viewer to insert himself into the fresh, breathable spaces they depict. It would be quite difficult to contemplate the works of this marvelous painter without experiencing an emotional affect. Therefore we dare state, without any fear of error, that Augusto Garcia is one of the best of the modern painters, since what one mainly seeks in art is to be stimulated and provoked. The ability to inspire this type of reaction in the spectator is what marks the difference between a work that's created only with the head, from one that's created, above all, with the heart."

Augusto is currenly a professor at the art Artes Plasticas in his hometown of Cusco. He also is a director of a local art gallery - Galeria de Arte Garcia, that showcases his work as well of his students and other professors.
